16 Dec The right curation fee per box
Most museums and repositories have the burden of curation in perpetuity. That’s a long time! How much to charge to curate a box of materials? Total all the costs of curation for last year. Divide that by the number of boxes you can store. This is how much you need per box in the first year and this will go up each year due to inflation. Typically, you can draw three percent of a long-term conservative investment and still cover the inflation costs. So, if you need $150 per box per box in Year 1, you would need to invest $5,000 to cover your annual costs. This is the real cost of curating a box of materials in perpetuity and is what sustainable repositories need to be charging.
